Let’s consider, examine, and transform.

Psychotherapists know that societal prejudice and racial inequities negatively impact an individual’s sense of well-being. Yet, when therapists lack language and confidence to talk about racial injustice we limit our therapeutic focus. Too often we attribute emotional difficulties solely to the individual without considering the social context.

Clinical consultation from a social justice perspective can broaden psychotherapists’ capacity to provide interventions and support. Consultation is a collaborative process to help therapists deepen critical race consciousness. In turn, they become more adept helping clients examine experiences of discrimination or privilege.
